Consulted by the European Commission and the European Council, the European historic houses association is a foundation registered under Dutch law whose head office is in Brussels. The association is an umbrella organisation gathering 18 national associations of historic houses and three observer countries. The principal objective is to adopt at a European scale favourable measures for the conservation of cultural heritage of historic houses in the areas of inheritance tax, Low VAT rate, and the illicit trafficking of cultural goods, among others.
